UploadMaster-SlaveEDS

In the field of control and automation, an EDS (Electronic Data Sheet) file is a text file that contains information about the characteristics and capabilities of a device, such as a sensor, actuator, or controller. EDS files are typically used in industrial communication protocols such as CANopen, DeviceNet, and EtherCAT.

The EDS file serves as a description of the device and its features, and it provides information about the communication parameters, services, and object dictionary that are required for the device to function within the control system. The EDS file is used by other devices in the control system to identify and communicate with the device, and it helps to ensure compatibility and interoperability between different devices in the system.

The EDS file typically includes information such as the device’s vendor name, product name, device type, and revision number, as well as the communication parameters, services, and object dictionary that are required for the device to function within the control system. The EDS file is an important component in the design and implementation of control systems, as it helps to ensure that different devices can communicate and function effectively within the system.

How To Upload EDS Files

  1. To upload your master and slave EDS files, drag the “CANopen Manager” FB from the “CANopen” tab in the Toolbox onto your device.
  2. Then, double-click on the “CANopen Manager” to open the “CANopen Properties” screen.
  3. On the “Device Info” tab, click the “Upload Master EDS” button on the top right corner, select the EDS file from your computer, and upload it.
  4. Then, select and enter the appropriate parameters and ID, and press the “Add New Device” button to load your slave device.
  5. Press the “Upload Slave EDS” button on the screen that opens, and select the ID, name, and parameter values. Repeat this process for as many slave devices as you want to upload.
  6. After you have installed all the devices, press the “Add to Object Dictionary” button.
  7. If your parameters and values are correct, your process will be completed with a “Objects Added” warning.

Note: “EDS” refers to “Electronic Data Sheet,” which is a file format used in CANopen systems to describe the functionality of devices on the network.
